Art 211 Basic Design - An interdisciplinary course intended to prepare students for study in a wide variety of art and design disciplines. Students will study the formal issues of design (color theory, line, edge, shape, form, mass, scale, and space) and will become more aware of the influences design has, not only on culture and society, but also on an individual's own work. Emphasizing a balance between the formal and communicative aspects of design, students are presented with design problems and are challenged to devise their own solutions in both two and three dimensions. Research, problem-solving skills, craft, professionalism and articulate presentations are all important to success in this course.
